What is Express Entry and how does it work?

Express Entry is Canada's main immigration system for skilled workers. It manages three federal programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates create a profile and receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence through regular draws.

What CRS score do I need to get an invitation to apply?

CRS score cutoffs change with every draw and depend on the type of draw — all-program draws typically require higher scores, while category-based draws (for healthcare, STEM, trades, etc.) can have lower cutoffs. Can a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) improve my Express Entry chances?

Yes — receiving a provincial nomination through an Express Entry-aligned PNP stream adds 600 points to your CRS score, which virtually guarantees an Invitation to Apply. Do I need an RCIC to apply through Express Entry?

Can I apply for Express Entry if I am currently outside Canada?
